2015 – JEEP COMPASS

The Jeep® Compass was launched in Brazil in 2012 to represent the gateway to the brand that invented the 4 × 4 segment. And this year, Jeep’s most urban SUV won a fair bit of audacity. The main novelty is the alloy wheels, which were 17 inches, become the 18 “ring. In addition, they are now painted in black, the same color applied to the contours of the traditional seven front cracks. The headlights have a black mask, and the taillights have also been darkened. Inside, the Jeep Compass not only had the graphics of the instruments redesigned but received a silver plaque on the dashboard above the glove compartment, in which the Compass and Jeep inscriptions stand out. The piece nicely matches the interior styling, along with other chrome and silver trim details such as steering wheel rims, vents, top of the shift knob and door knobs. To increase the rolling comfort, which has always been a highlight of the model, was installed a windshield with acoustic insulation, an item uncommon in the category. Produced at the Belvidere plant in Illinois, the Compass has a harmonious design and modern mechanical set. The all-aluminum 2.0 16V engine features dual variable valve timing and is coupled to the CVT (continuously variable) automatic transmission, which can also simulate six gears. The suggested model price is R $ 89,900.

Safety above all

The extensive list of standard items is one of the great strengths of the Jeep Compass, which has no options, as usual on Chrysler Group models in Brazil. Just for safety, there are more than 30 devices, including electronic stability control, tire pressure monitoring and four air bags – two front and two curtain covers, covering both rows of seats.

Broad connectivity

As for the comfort features, the Jeep Compass does not let down. The audio system is equipped with a built-in CD changer for six CDs with MP3 / WMA and DVD compatibility, auxiliary and USB 2.0 inputs (including full control of devices such as iPod, iPad and iPhone), and Bluetooth Uconnect voice.

First class mechanics and chassis

The powertrain also excels in the Jeep Compass, delivering good gas-saving performance. All made of aluminum and with dual valve control variable on intake and exhaust, the engine is a four-cylinder 2-liter that yields 156 hp of power and 19.4 kgfm of torque. It works together with the CVT2 automatic transmission, continuously variable ratios and smooth running. Efficiency is reflected in low consumption. On an urban route, the Jeep Compass can do up to 9.8 km / l. In turn, the exchange stands out as a second generation of Chrysler CVT, calibrated to offer more pleasant responses and greater control. Compared to a traditional four-speed automatic, the fuel economy is up to 8%. Another advantage of the CVT2 is the restarts performed between 50 and 100 km / h. The transmission also has the AutoStick feature, which simulates six speeds, for manual exchanges. In normal use, CVT2 does not require fluid exchanges, reducing maintenance cost. The good drivability of the Jeep Compass’s mechanics is further enhanced by the four-wheel independent front-end McPherson strut and multi-link multilink rear. Coming from the 4 × 4 version, the suspension is enhanced, bringing Jeep’s seven-decade know-how to meet the demands of the different floors found in Brazil.  The strength of the chassis is completed by the monobloc body, with excellent torsional rigidity. Its main external dimensions are: 4,448 mm in length, 1,812 mm in width (without mirrors) and 1,718 mm in height (including roof racks).

Amazing content

The wheelbase of 2,635 mm translates into good interior space for all Jeep Compass occupants. Another highlight of the cabin is the practicality. The front passenger seat, for example, can be folded forward and the split rear seat 60/40 has a 12 ° reclining backrest. The Jeep Compass is offered with a comprehensive package of standard equipment, unusual in its class. Apart from the items already mentioned, there is alarm, automatic air-conditioning, active front head restraints, front sliding central armrest with object carrier, uphill exit assistant, traction control, cruise control, electronic correction rear-view mirrors, electric and heated rear view mirrors, height-adjustable headlamps, fog lamps and fog lamps, four-wheel disc brakes, portable and rechargeable LED flashlights, anchorage points for children’s chairs (Latch / Isofix), light-emitting cupholders, trailer bracket, electric door locking, fuel cap with speed sensor,
